The specific objective of this project is to secure better and regular access to food for poor families in the city and in the outskirts of Siem Reap through a triple approach that is aimed at:
Increasing the general income of poor households and thus increase their budget available for food;
Reducing the cost of food and improve its quality through home based-production; and
Enhancing the ability of vulnerable people to cope with economic shocks and to adapt to longer term threats as a result of better social integration and vision.
The project's expected results include:
Local authorities have built capacity to promote community building, quality jobs and sustainable micro- businesses in the poor communities (7 commune councils, 30 village chiefs, 30 UCWs, 1800 hhs)
Increase in employment and micro- business development opportunities (1050 persons trained, 640 quality jobs,157 SMEs)
Increase in the use of appropriate technologies in the home production of safe and nutritious food (1400 persons)
Stronger and more organized SHGs that are at less risk of food shortage (35 SHGs- 700 hhs involved in SHGs- 1800 hhs increased awareness).
