The project aimed to contribute to the development of a permanent, market oriented, biodigester sector in seven provinces of Cambodia with its main focus on Takeo province. Biodigesters are a locally well-proven technology which takes advantage of gasses released from decomposing manure and with a durability of 15-20 years. The project had hoped to achieve this by stimulating market demand by subsidiZing biodigesters construction and by developing the private sector comprised of biodigesters and supporting biodigester users.
Project sustainability may be achieved through systematic linkages between bio-digester users (representing demand side) and bio-digester construction companies and (micro)finance institutions (representing supply side) and long-term funding from the NBP-managed sale of Verified Emission Reductions.
