The project seeks to improve the food security of an estimated 500,000 poor and vulnerable people affected by higher food prices. It is expected that food intake of the poor will increase, while the lowest quintile of farmers (the poorest 20% of the national population) will be able to increase food production. The employment and income of households with limited purchasing power will increase. The project is expected to reduce poverty of low-income groups, and will strengthen the capacity of the government institutions involved in emergency food assistance.
