The project's overall objective was togather and process existing data on poverty in the Mekong Delta region, in order to inform the Government of Vietnam, provincial and central authorities and international donors, and guide potential future interventions.
It consisted of three stages. Stage 1 (Synthesis of existing data) concentrated on collecting and synthesizing existing data and involves participation of provinces and local research institutions. Stage 2 (Detailed field studies) combined survey-based (quantitative) and participatory qualitative methodologies. Stage 3 (Options for Future Interventions) involved the discussion of the key findings on the poverty analysis at final workshop in the Mekong Delta with the participation of provincial leaders, central government representatives, donors, academic institutions and NGOs. The 12 provinces of the delta were linked to the process through regular planned workshops, provincial visits and regular communication to discuss progress and to maximize participation and ownership of the process.
