People With Disabilities are often restricted from actively participating in the socio-economic life of their communities. They face barriers in accessing education and employment opportunities. The effect of disability is experienced by the entire household, since the presence of a disabled child or adult often hinders the socio-economic contribution of other family members, especially women.
Many people with disabilities become discouraged by the barriers and mistaken assumptions about their capacity to learn and work. Some withdraw from the active search for jobs due to the lack of opportunities. Also, women with disabilities suffer from additional discrimination based on gender, as well as people with disabilities from ethnic minorities groups who suffer from additional language and cultural barriers.
The objective of this initiative is to upgrade the knowledge and professional skills of people with disabilities to secure work and improve livelihoods. It will do this by:
