The overall objective of the programme was to improve livelihoods, income and agricultural competitiveness of poor rural households in the context of a regionally integrated GMS. It specifically sought to:
Introduce new and improved production, handling and processing technologies for commodities of interest to poor rural households, particularly women;
Make commodity chains more rewarding for poor producers by promoting balanced partnerships between buyers and producers; and
Facilitate expanded trade for rural poor households within neighboring countries of the GMS by exploring new ways to assess market demand and address trade constraints.
